How Therapy Works
To initiate the process of seeking services with Dr. Iyican, please call (661) 567-7707 for a brief phone interview. We will discuss your needs and whether this practice offers services that are a good fit for you. The therapy process differs depending on whether you are seeking couple or individual therapy. In both cases, Dr. Iyican has specialized training in time-limited, evidence-based approaches that are designed to help you reach your goals as soon as possible. The exact duration of therapy will vary depending on a number of factors, including modality of treatment, frequency of sessions (once per week is typically recommended), and the amount of time and energy you as a client have to devote to the therapy process.
Couple therapy
Couple therapy begins with an in-depth assessment that lasts about 4 sessions. Dr. Iyican will meet with you and your partner conjointly, and then at least once with each of you individually. This will allow her to get a sense of your relationship concerns, any problematic communication patterns that may be arising, and each partner’s individual family and mental health histories. Following the individual sessions, Dr. Iyican will meet with you and your partner for a conjoint feedback session in which she will provide her evaluation of relationship concerns, strengths, and a plan for treatment to address your specific relationship goals. Following the assessment, couples are typically seen for 16-20 weekly sessions. Treatment sessions focus on teaching couples evidence-based skills to improve communication and increase connection.
Individual therapy
Individual therapy begins with a mental health intake assessment to determine diagnoses (if present) and develop a treatment plan to address your specific goals. Following the intake, clients are typically seen for 10-12 weekly sessions. Treatment is individually tailored to fit each client’s unique needs.
